Nobel Gundam

Synopsis: Mobile Fighter G Gundam is one of those series filled with many unorthodox designs of Gundams. While Nobel Gundam is not the most spectacular of these Gundam designs, it seems a bit confusing. While most other designs feature certain qualities of the country they represent (sometimes to the point of absurdity) Neo Sweden's Mobile fighter has little in common with the country it represents. Resembling a Japanese Schoolgirl look, this fighter was made to provide some conflict and tension in the relationship between Domon Kasshu and Rain Mikamura. So lets see the figure.

The Figure: The head is well detailed but the paintjob around the head vulcans are a little sloppy. At the back of the head the "Hair" can be switched out between normal and Beserker modes. These modes help determine the range of motion the head can undergo. At normal mode the "hair" allows only limited motion of the head due to the rigid plastic hair not being too flexible. In Berserker mode the head can rotate 360 degrees while vertical movement in both modes are impossible.

The arms are well articulated like average gundams and the delicate limbs aren't really as delicate as they appear at a glance. This figure comes with five hands following the multiple hands found in G-Gundam figures domestically. Hands include two closed fists, two open hands, and one sword hand. The sword hand is for the right hand only.

The legs follow the slim and delicate look of the arms. The upper leg moves well due to the low skirt armor though splits are impossible due to rigid hip armor. The knee joint features the ver 2.0 joint found in the New Gundam and ZakuII versions giving the knee enough articulation for the Thigh to rest on the calve with no problems. Ankle movement is decent though not completely free.

The Torso is the best detailed and painted of the entire figure, at the back a panel of the neckerchief can be switched out with one featured extended engines for hyper mode. Torso rotation is limited due to the hip armor for the most part.

The Accessories: almost half of the accessories included with Nobel Gundam are used to facilitate transformation between modes.

Berserker Hair: Rigid in a fixed position this could have been completely yellow but Bandai actually went through the trouble of coloring a part at the base of the underside of the hair a separate color. This coloring is used to show different machinery..or prove that the blond hair is really a dye job ;-)!

Neckerchief Thrusters: Like the hair the thrusters had a good paint job, also this piece is needed to facilitate the Berserker mode.

Beam Hoop: Following the Sailor Moon look Designers of the Nobel Gundam felt somewhat obligated to create this beam weapon which twirls. This odd weapon survives in toy form and while not the most intimidating weapon, it makes an attention getting display similar to the manner it was packaged with Nobel Gundam. The beam detaches at the hip.

Beam Ribbon: A shorter version of the beam hoop giving the appearance that someone's Beam Saber is acting up. Like the hoop it detaches from the hilt as well.

The Berserker Module Truck: I actually kind of looked forward to this accessory hoping it would be able to elevate at the arm or reach at the cockpit but no. The wheels don't move, the turret doesn't twist, the arm doesn't elevate or lower and all-in-all this vehicle quite the disappointment.

Play Value: Switching modes seems a decent Gimmick, the weapons are not really that menacing or in some cases too useful. Play value isn't this figure's strong point.

Display Value: This figure will draw attention to your collection due to the poses it can perform, the odd weapons, and the fact that this is probably the only Gundam you'll have looking remotely female. The Sailor Moon resemblance may bring up comments good or bad. This would make for a discussion piece.

Dollar Value: For the G-fighter fans this is good figure to get due to it's supporting role in the later episodes of the series. $5 was a good price given its detail but its flaws prevent a deluxe price rating from being worth it. I received it as a standard release.

Conclusion: An unusual yet somewhat decent figure. The Accessories are somewhat of a disappointment however G-fighter fans may still better appreciate this figure then I.

Score: 5.5/10 unique looks and good details are its pluses though some accessory and figure flaws hamper a higher rating.
